Central Lake Public Schools Board of Education to Pursue Bond Proposal in May 2025
Central Lake, MI – The Central Lake Public Schools Board of Education is excited to announce its intention to pursue a bond proposal in May 2025. The Board of Education approved the Application for Preliminary Qualification of Bonds at its’ December 9, 2024 Regular Board Meeting. This investment in our district’s future will provide essential upgrades and improvements to our school facilities.
The proposed bond will fund critical projects such as:
- Remodeling, equipping, and re-equipping school buildings, structures, and facilities, including school security improvements; erecting a secure vestibule addition to Central Lake Middle/High School; furnishing and refurnishing school buildings and facilities; acquiring, installing, equipping, and re-equipping school buildings for instructional technology; and preparing, developing, improving and equipping playgrounds, structures, facilities, and sites.
The community will receive a comprehensive list of projects after the Board of Education officially calls for an election.
Clarifying the millage rate is essential to ensure transparency. The district's total millage rate will increase to 2.01 mills, representing a net increase of 1.97 mills. The district currently levies a 0.10 mill rate for a previous bus bond and estimates the levy for next year will be reduced to 0.06 mills. Once the bus bond is paid off, the net increase from the proposed bond will be 1.97 mills.
Furthermore, the estimated simple average annual millage anticipated to retire this bond debt is 1.63 mills. Thus, the average yearly millage rate will be 1.63 mills over the life of the bond.
“This bond proposal represents a significant opportunity to enhance our educational environment and prepare our students for success,” said Dr. Ryan Cunningham, Superintendent. “By investing in our schools, we are investing in the future of our community.”
The Board of Education will continue to provide updates on the bond proposal as the process moves forward.
